SPORTS TALK WITH COACH D

NBA

The Philadelphia 76’ers, after suffering a losing 2020 season, made a number of personnel moves. The front office has extended Elton Brand’s contract as General Manager and hired Daryl Morey as President of Basketball Operations. Morey is the former manager of The Houston Rockets. Elton Brand was also integral in hiring former basketball player and former Coach of the LA Clippers, Doc Rivers,  as the new Basketball Coach of the Philadelphia 76’ers.

The 76’ers selected a few players during the 2020 Draft on November 18, 2020.  The 76’ers also made some valuable trades such as Josh Richardson and the 36th pick to Dallas, to acquire Seth Curry, shooting guard who has played for seven teams in his six year NBA career.  The team also signed former L.A. Lakers Champion, Power Forward Dwight Howard to a one year veteran’s deal for three million dollars.  With these new pieces, the Philadelphia 76’ers should have a productive season, if the team can work together effectively and consistently.

NFL

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to struggle to compete with teams and COVID-19.  Players around the league have been plagued with The Corona Virus during the season.  The Eagles are currently #2 with a record of 3 wins 4 losses and 1 tie in The NFC East behind #1 The Washington Football team with a record of 4 wins 7 losses.

With 6 regular season games remaining, The Eagles have some tough games ahead.  It appears that we may be in trouble.  It is time to give the young guy, Jalen Hurts, an opportunity to throw the ball.  Wentz just is not getting the job done.  Wentz has thrown at least two interceptions per game along with his erratic decision making.  Wentz remains ineffective and Doug must make some important quarterback decisions before it is too late.

MEN’S COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL

College hoops are back.  The #1 team to beat is Gonzaga.  Villanova is ranked #3.  Teams are hopeful that they will have an opportunity to play their full season without Covid-19 interruptions.  Contingency plans are being prepared just in case.  Teams may potentially have to play in a bubble like the NBA to minimize the possibility of a Covid-19 outbreak.

WOMEN’S COLLEGIATE BASKETBALL

Dawn Staley’s South Carolina Women’s basketball team is #1 in the league.  Teams continue to fight for social justice for all.  Ten South Carolina players remained seated during the National Anthem as the team defeated The College of Charleston 119-38 on Wednesday, November 25, 2020.  The team tweeted after the game that they did not stand to continue to shine a light on racial inequality, social injustice and to end racism in our country.

Some of the women’s collegiate basketball teams were cancelled and postponed due to positive Covid-19 test among some players.

BOXING

On November 28, 2020 Mike Tyson fought Roy Jones Jr. live on Pay-Per-View in a WBC Heavyweight Exhibition Bout for The WBC Frontline Belt.  The exhibition was more like a hugging match, as it was evident that neither of two wanted to get knocked out.  The fight ended in a draw.  For those of us who really enjoy a good fight, Snoop's commentary was somewhat annoying, but did add some excitement to the snore.

Also, Former NBA Player, Nate Robinson entered the ring to take on Jake Paul (1-0) (1 KO) for the Cruiserweight Belt.  Well, needless to say, Nate was better at playing basketball. He was knocked out in Round 2, and looked so bad that the referee immediately stopped the fight.  The memes are hilarious, although we feel badly for Nate and hope that is okay.

Badou Jack (22-3-3) (13 KO’s) vs Blake McKernan (13-0) (6 KO’s) for The Heavyweight Belt.  Hasim Rahman, Jr. (9-0) (4 KO’s) vs Rashad Coulter former UFC  and Martial Arts Fighter.

UNDERCARD:

LIGHTWEIGHT TITLE:  Jermaine Ortiz (13-0) (7 KO’S) vs  Salaiman Segawa

FEATHERWEIGHT TITLE: Irvin Gonzalez, Jr. (14-2) (11 KO’s) vs Edward Vasquez (8-0) (1 KO)

HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE:  Juiseppe Cusumano (18-3) (16 KO’S) vs Greg Corbin

**NOTE: The Welterweight Title Bout between Titleholder Errol Spence, Jr. and Danny Garcia was rescheduled from November 21st to December 5th, 2020 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.**

THE PHILADELPHIA UNION

The Philadelphia Union was the #1 seed entering into the 2020 MLS Playoffs.  After winning and celebrating their first trophy ever, THE SUPPORTERS SHIELD, the team suffered their most disappointing day of the season, falling 2-0 to The New England Revolution in round 1 of  The  Audi MLS Cup Playoffs!!

The Team has improved every year and stands committed to striving for more and taking it to the next level in 2021.

THE YEAR 2020 IS COMING TO A CLOSE AND I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND CONTINUE TO REMAIN VIGILANT IN THE MIDST OF ADVERSITY!!!!
