ATHLETIC SPORTS MANIA
BACK TO SPORTS

Live Sports have made a comeback in August, with no fans allowed.  Fans do, however, have the opportunity to buy a space to have their faces placed on the seats, at least at baseball games.  Each sports team has

accommodations such as daily temperature checks, wearing a mask, and social distancing.  Such health and safety protocols will stay in place during this pandemic.

Collegiate and High School sports remain uncertain about whether they will continue during the pandemic.  Currently, most schools are engaging in remote learning due to Covid-19 outbreaks.  Some high schools and colleges attempted to open and return to playing sports, however due to students not complying with the health and safety rules, gathering in large numbers, not wearing a mask, and not social distancing, they were immediately shut down, indefinitely, after some students tested positive for Covid-19.

PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

Let’s talk baseball.  Our Philadelphia Phillies were struggling in the beginning of the season, losing five games.  But, by the end of August, they revived themselves and are on a five game winning streak.   Bryce Harper is playing his best, but he could use his teams help.  Players need to be more consistent.  The Playoffs will be coming soon, so the Phillies need to make it into post season.  Some Major League Baseball Players continue to test positive for Covid-19.

LET’S GO PHILLIES!!!!

PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS are in the fight for the 2020 Stanley Cup.  The Flyers made it through the first round of Playoffs defeating The Canadiens, winning the best out of seven games to move forward to the second round of playoffs.

For the first time in eight years, the Flyers are heading to the second round of playoffs to take on the Islanders.  The Flyers have finally made it to legitimately contending and are on a viable post season run.  Unfortunately, the flyers lost game 3 against the Islanders.  If they don't get back to winning, they could lose the  best of seven second-round playoff series.

Second Round Schedule (vs) Islanders:
Best out of Seven

Game (1): 8-24-20 @ 7pm

Game (2): 8-26-20 @ 3pm

Game (3): 8-27-20 @ 7pm

 Game (4): 8-29-20 @ 12pm

Game (5): 8-31-30—T.B.D.

Game (6): 9-2-20—T.B.D.

Game (7): 9-3-20—T.B.D.
LET’S GO FLYERS!!!!!

PHILADELPHIA 76’ers

The National Basketball Association returned to play in Florida.  The League remains Covid-19 free, due to diligently adhering to the health and safety protocols.

The Philadelphia 76’ers lost a valuable player, Ben Simmons, due to a knee injury he sustained in a game.  Since that incident, the 76’ers have not been able to gel together and get a win.  It looks like the team has ALL guards on the floor (including Big Man Joel Embid), who refuses to take his big body in the paint and battle like a big man should.  It is frustrating for the fans to see such a group of good players not play together and move into the second round of playoffs.

The 76’ers end their season in disappointment. They were swept in the playoffs against the Boston Celtics who lead the series (4-0).  It makes a difference not having so many games to get into the swing of things and to develop as a team.  It is not looking too good for 2020.

Where will Ben, Embid, and Coach Brett be in Season 2021?  The team fired, Brett Brown following the final lost to the Celtics.

THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

The Philadelphia Eagles have returned to their training facilities for team workouts.  The team receives daily temperature checks for health and safety protocols.

Players were excited to return and take the field.  The League is on schedule to return to compete on September 13, 2020.

The Eagles have a few players with undisclosed illnesses, (WR) Jalen Reagor, (WR) Deontay Burnett, (CB) Rasul Douglas, Edge Rusher, and Sharif Miller.

Injured Players (day to day):
Zach Ertz --upper body
Boston Scott --lower body

Sidney Jones --lower body

Dallas Goedert --upper body

Marcus Epps—lower body

Injured Players (week to week):
Miles Sanders—lower body

Injured Players (indefinitely):
Derek Barnett—ankle

WELCOME BACK, Jason Peters and Corey Clement!!!!!!!

Corey has been working out with the first offense at running back. He looks like he is in great shape and ready to get a second Superbowl ring.

LET’S GO EAGLES!!

WNBA 2020

The WNBA is full steam ahead at the IMG Academy in Florida.  The League is playing in a bubble, also named “The Wubble” for the women.  Teams are testing for Covid—19 on a daily basis.  Players wear masks and practice social distancing.  Since the opening game, only two players have tested positive for Covid—19.

There are twelve teams playing in twenty-two games completing the regular season from July 25, 2020—September 12, 2020.  Eight teams will advance to the playoffs which will culminate with a best out of five game series in October.

The Seattle Storm looks like the team to beat in 2020!!!!

Team Co-Owner, Republican Senator, Kelly Loeffler of the Atlanta Dream discredited “BLACK LIVES MATTER.”

Loeffler penned a letter to WNBA Commissioner Cathy Englebert decrying (publicly denounce) the leagues association with “BLACK LIVES MATTER (BLM)” Movement and suggested wearing American Flag jerseys instead.  Loeffler appeared on the news to say (BLM) is based on Marxist principals that could destroy the country.

Some WNBA players feel Loeffler should sell her share of The Dream and GET OUT IMMEDIATELY!

One of Atlanta Dream’s players, Renee Montgomery, opted out of her 2020 WNBA contract to pursue social justice causes as well as other players around the league.

Well, just when we thought sports returned, we understand how things can change in a day and we stand in solidarity with you.  Because of the state of events taking place worldwide with police officers continuing to shoot unarmed Black people, the black community as well as people in the sports world continue to protest.  Several basketball players, baseball players, and soccer players have ceased their games to stand up against police brutality and stand in solidarity.  Several games have been postponed until further notice.

BOXING

The Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr., exhibition fight has been rescheduled to November 28, 2020 at the Dignity Health Sports Park in California.  This should be quite interesting to watch.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO TOOK UP THE BLACK LIVES MATTER CAUSE AND MOVEMENT!!!!!!
