SUPPORT LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES

Open For Business

Big businesses are usually okay during a time of crisis; they usually receive a bail out from the government.  Meanwhile, small businesses tend to suffer, because of the lack of support and funding.  During this pandemic businesses have been forced to shut down with no known end in sight and do not know when they can re-open.  This has caused several businesses to have to file for bankruptcy, close permanently, or lay-off employees.  The funds that the government announced that were supposed to support small businesses were not allocated to small businessses,  instead the funds were used to support big businesses as usual.  I know for myself, when I applied for a small business grant on the SBA.org website, as soon as the financial assistance details were announced, I received an email that read, “No lender match found.”   So, it was disheartening for me to see that businesses like Universities and other large Commercial businesses were awarded millions of dollars, when I know that there are several small businesses that do not make close to their amount of revenue.

This inequity has led the government to run out of funds that were supposed to be allocated to “small” businesses, so they had to request another large sum of money that is supposed to go towards helping small businesses.

If you have a small business and need financial assistance, below are links to apply for financial assistance.  Keep in mind that the funds were initially offered as a “grant” when they first announced it, now it appears to be offered as a “loan.”  So, be mindful of that when applying for funding.  Grants do not have to be paid back, but you do have to repay loans.

Make sure that YOU SUPPORT LOCAL SMALL BUSINESSES IN YOUR COMMUNITY, because they cannot survive in this economy without YOUR support!

Thank you to all of the essential workers who give of themselves unselfishly to continue to help and support others.  THANK YOU!

TIPS

make up model 8.jpg

This month we focus on Contouring.  Contouring is used to achieve a more chiseled look to the face using the right contouring brush, as well as contour palette.   You should first consider the shape of your face to know which areas to apply the contour to.  To complete the contour, you want to make sure that you use a foundation brush or beauty blender.  You will also need a blush brush as well that is flat and angular shaped, and a contouring brush that is angled as well.  Finish your make-up by applying setting powder with a large powder brush.  Contouring looks even better when you add highlighter, so you also need a highlighter brush that is flat and rounded at the top.

Before applying the contour, you want to first apply a primer to the skin to ensure a smooth finish, then you want to apply concealer to make sure that you hide any imperfections.  Next, apply foundation (satin or smooth finish) to the face lightly.  Lastly, use the contour palette and highlighting powder.  Make sure you blend well with a beauty sponge and apply setting spray.  Add blush to the cheekbones and apply lipstick to the lips.  Below are the best practices on how to apply contour based on your facial shape:

For a round shaped face, contouring should be done at the temples, the cheekbones and the sides of your jawline to create more definition in those areas to make it look more oval.

For a square shaped face, you want to soften the angles by applying contour to the sides of your forehead as well as underneath your cheek bones to your chin.

For a facial shape that is oblong, apply on the forehead area and sides of the jaw blending towards the chin.

For a heart shaped face, apply contour on the sides of your temples and forehead, as well as below your chin.

For a triangular shaped face, you want to focus on your jaw line and add highlights to the cheek bone, underneath your eyes as well as to your temples.

For an oval shaped face, start contouring below the cheek bones.
