EMPOWERING MOMENT
SMILE

The Empowering Word of the Month for July is Smile. Have you ever smiled at someone and noticed that it automatically made the person you smiled at, smile back at you? This is because smiling is said to release endorphins, dopamine, and serotonin, which are chemicals in the brain associated with pleasure and happiness. There are several benefits associated with Smiling. Smiling can reduces stress by reducing the stress hormone cortisol, leading to a more relaxed state.
People who are sad, suffer from low self-esteem, and those who don't have good coping skills, can find it difficult to smile. Nevertheless, smiling can make you feel more confident. It can also make you appear more approachable and friendly in social settings. Even if you're not genuinely happy, forcing a smile could still bring a boost in your mood.
It takes more facial muscles to frown (43-47), than it takes to smile (10-15). Smiling can prevent us from looking tired. People who are happy appear to have better health and live longer. Smiling and laughter are good for the heart, soul, mind, and spirit. Laughter can cause muscle relaxation and lower blood pressure after causing an initial increase in heart rate, breathing, and oxygen consumption.
Take time to smile today, because smiling is good for you. Your smile can also be good for others. A simple thing like smiling can improve your immune system by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which regulates the release of gut hormones and antibodies that reduce inflammation and mediate the immune response.
So you see, smiling boosts your mental and physical health. Even if you fake a smile, it can improve your mood. So, smile often to see how good you feel immediately after doing so. Smile.
