PHILLY SPORTS

We welcomed the return of sports, following cancellations due to COVID-19.  Some professional players continue to experience episodes of the Coronavirus.  Teams are taking health protocols to ensure that the players and coaches remain COVID Free.

Both, the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia 76’ers went home early after losing too many games.

PHILADELPHIA 76’ERS

The Philadelphia 76’ers never made it to the second round of the playoffs.  The team was swept by the Boston Celtics 4-0 in a 7 game series.  Ben Simmons left the series early due to a knee injury.  The team never matched the Boston Celtics intensity throughout all four games.  Coach Brett Brown was immediately fired after the series ended.  No other changes were made to the team, but fans know that changes should be made to the players to reassure fans that the team will be healthy and ready to go for next season.  The team may need to acquire some players that could immediately contribute to the team, and may have to get rid of some other players.

There are four teams remaining in the Final Four, Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics and L.A. Lakers vs. Denver Nuggets.  The Miami Heat is winning their series against the Boston Celtics 3-2 in a 7 games series, as of Sept. 26th.  The L. A. Lakers are up vs The Denver Nuggets 3-1 in a 7 games series, as of Sept. 26th.

MAY THE BEST TEAMS WIN AND MOVE ON TO THE FINALS!!!

Congrats to Joel Embiid on his new baby boy!

Sad to see that Doc Rivers has been fired as the Head Coach for the Clippers, maybe the Sixers will recruit him.

THE PHILADELPHIA FLYERS

The Philadelphia Flyers were poised to win the 7 game series against the New York Islanders,  and be in contention for the division championship.  Not so fast!  The Flyers made it through the shortened regular season to appear in the playoffs looking like the favorite to win.  The team made it to the second round, only to lose to the New York Islanders 4-3. The Islanders would advance to the next round to take on and lose to the Tampa Bay Lightning.  The Lightning will take on the Dallas Stars in the championship for the 2020 Stanley Cup.

WNBA

There are four teams remaining in the WUBBLE in Florida fighting for the 2020 Championship.  The Connecticut Sun vs Las Vegas Aces, and the Mercury Lynx vs Seattle Storm.  Connecticut is winning the series 2-1, and Seattle is leading their series 2-0.

CONGRATULATIONS to Ms A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces for winning the League MVP 2020!  Wilson was crowned MVP of the WNBA.  This is the first WNBA MVP Award for Wilson who was the WNBA Rookie of The Year and a WNBA All Star selection in 2018 and 2019.

AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO MS A’JA WILSON FORMER PLAYER OF DAWN STALEY OF SOUTH CAROLINA WOMEN’S BASKETBALL TEAM!!!

THE PHILADELPHIA PHILLIES

The Phillies were ranked third in the National League with a record of 27 wins and 27 losses, as of Sept. 26th, leaving them in a must win position to play in the playoffs.  Due to a shortened season, baseball is in its final week of regular season.  The Phillies were pushing to make it into post season, however, after losing to the Tampa Bay Rays, the team can only get into the playoffs with a wild card selection.  The Phillies have been struggling.  The League has had its struggles as well with COVID-19 and maintaining healthy protocols throughout the series.  There have been several outbreaks since their return.  However, the league forges through.  Only 16 teams will participate in post season play.  Lets’ keep our fingers, eyes and toes crossed in hope that the Phillies will get that wild card pick to extend their season.

THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

The Philadelphia Eagles are 0--2--1 to start the regular season.  The team lost to Washington in their first game back 27-17 after winning each quarter, until the fourth quarter.  In the Eagles home opener game, the team lost to the L. A. Rams 37-19.  Carson Wentz is struggling to throw the ball effectively.  Sanders and Lane both returned from injury and the team still came up short.  The fans have yet to see what Jaylen Hurts contributions will be to the team.  He did get in a few plays but not as Quarterback.  Coach Pederson blamed the losses on a shortened training camp.  That is hogwash!!!!!  Every team in the league had a shortened training season, it is what was done in those sessions as a team that produced desired outcomes.  In short-WINNING!!!!!

Currently, Carson Wentz is among the worst Quarterbacks in two losses with too many turnovers and interceptions.  Wentz looks like he is regressing. The Eagles look BAD!! The team is not protecting or running the ball.  Heading into the third game of the season, the Eagles lost Left Guard Edward Seumalo who is out due to a knee injury; Wide Receiver Alshon Jeffries is out due to a foot injury; Defensive Tackle Fletcher Cox is questionable due to an abdominal injury; Safety Rudy Ford is out due to a groin injury; and Wide Receiver Jalen Reagor is out due a thumb injury.

Just my thought, it would not hurt the Eagles at this time to put Jalen Hurts in as Quarterback, to give Wentz a break that I believe he needs, and to see what Jalen has in his arsenal.  For some years now, fans have been screening that Wentz holds the ball too long waiting to throw it to his favorites, every team knows this by now, which is why they have been going straight for the quarter back.  Throw the football to any open man on your team, everybody got their start from somewhere.  The front office brought Jalen in as third string QB, but he has moved up to second string.  Hopefully, Coach Pederson will give him an opportunity sooner rather than later!!!  Jalen did a great job as a decoy for the Eagles team against L.A., so Pederson understands his potential as a dual threat for the opposing teams!!  GET JALEN IN THE GAME COACH!!!  If we don’t play better soon, who knows what the Eagles team and coaching staff will look like in 2021.

On Sunday, Sept. 27th, the Eagles end in a tie game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

THE PHILADELPHIA UNION

The Philadelphia Union has returned to play.  As least one of the Philadelphia teams has continued to play consistently well.  The team is playing and winning games. The Union is tied for second place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses.  The team has four remaining games before league playoffs in late October.

The Unions remaining regular season schedule:

9/27: Miami

10/3: Toronto

10/7: Cincinnati

10/14: D.C. United

10/18: New England

PREMIER BOXING LEAGUE

The Premier Boxing Association presents a night of boxing with The Charlo Brothers, Jermall and Jermell Charlo.  On September 26, 2020 the brothers will debut a night of boxing in the Mohegan Sun Arena, Uncasville, Connecticut.  Jermall Charlo (30 wins, 22 by KO) will take on Sergiy Derevyanchenko, and Jermell Charlo (33 wins, 1 loss, and 17 knock outs) will take on Jeison Rosario.  On the undercard bouts, Luis Nery will take on Aaron Almeda and Daniel Roman will take on Juan Carlos Payano.

Stay tuned, because next month, Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr are scheduled to fight on November 28th.  There are rumors that Roy Jones Jr. thinks he made a mistake by taking on this fight.  Mike Tyson is training really hard as if he has something to prove to people who say that he is not as good of a fighter.  Hopefully, Roy is talking to Evander Holyfield to find out what it takes to defeat Mike.   Let’s just hope that this one does not end with ear biting.
