DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH

Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) is held each October as a way to advocate and end domestic violence. It is the month that we raise awareness about the signs of abuse and ways to stop it, to uplift survivors, and provide additional resources.
The month serves as a platform to unite communities, raise awareness about abuse, and foster conversations that challenge domestic violence. It is the time to reflect and strategize about how to remove yourself safely from violence. For the abuser, it is a time for making changes in how you handle conflict situations, communication, anger, coping, as well as toxic relationships. It is time to get the help that you need to be and do better.
A prominent symbol of this awareness is the color purple, which represents peace, courage, and solidarity with survivors. It also seeks to provide support for survivors and advocate for policies that promote safe, respectful relationships.
If you are in a domestic violence situation get help.
Call 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), text “START” to 88788, or chat online at the Domestic Violence Hotline for free, confidential support.
Any type of violence is NOT okay.
