EMPOWERING MOMENT
WORD OF THE MONTH:
DETERMINATION
Determination is the word of the month for October 2021. Determination is defined as having a firmness of purpose, resoluteness, or the process of establishing something exactly by calculation or research. Determination requires perseverance towards achieving goals that might seem unattainable. Determination is about overcoming obstacles that try to get in the way of your destiny and goal achievement. Determining to get to that end result, is easy when the road is clear and easy for you to navigate. However, it can be hard to stay determined when the road is not clear or easy. In those uneasy moments, you have to ask yourself, “How bad do I want this for myself, how bad do I need this, and what do I personally need to do to achieve my goals?” When you answer those questions, you can uncover your intended purpose for achieving your goals. It is your intentions that will either stifle you or propel you forward. If your intentions are not pure, and your goals for yourself are not clear, you are more likely to lose tenacity or shift the focus away from achieving your goals.
However, if your intentions are pure, and you know exactly what you want to achieve in life, you are more likely to remain focused on achieving your goals, despite how hard or out of reach they may seem. To be determined you have to possess the following personality traits: drive, passion, strong belief, resilience, will power, direction, focus, self-sufficiency, courage, self-confidence, strength, desire, as well as the ability to be results-oriented and solution-focused. An important aspect to mention is that when you are determined about goal achievement, you actually have the skillset to do whatever you have in your heart and mind to do (i.e., if you want to be a professional singer, you should already possess the ability to sing well). It is important that you understand, accept, and be honest with yourself about your abilities and disabilities.
When you are determined, nothing can distract you away from achieving your life goals. Figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life and be determined to achieve your goals. Always keep in mind, Your goals in life, should not be the goals of achieving what other people have. Your goals should be specific to you and what you truly want for your own life. After you know what you want for your own life, do the research to find out what you need to do to achieve your goals and then work towards goal achievement. Being determined gives you an advantage of being successful in life. If you give up, before you reach your goals, the only absolute is that you will never achieve your goals, because you gave up. To develop determination, do the following:
-
Believe in Yourself.
-
Write down your goals and define what your success looks like for you.
-
Make sure you are setting realistic goals. Are your goals attainable for you?
-
Develop strategies on how you can work towards achieving your goals. (Do the research)
-
Identify what you will do if you get distracted.
-
Work hard to stay on task when working toward goal achievement.
-
Set milestones to achieve (either weekly, monthly or yearly).
-
Reward yourself for achieving your milestone.
-
Don’t give up, when things get hard.
-
Celebrate you and believe in yourself, even if no one else seems to believe in you.
-
Build your character by developing the personality traits outlined in paragraph two.
-
Be patient.
When you want to achieve anything in life that is worth achieving, keep working towards it (even through difficult times). You might have to strategize about using a different approach, if the first approach did not work well. However, remain focused on what you want for your life. People might try to hold you back or prevent you from achieving your goals, but this is where your self-sufficiency should come into play and override and eliminate any negative plot that was intended to break, stop, or defeat you. Remember, only you can stop you…only you can defeat you…only you can break you. Even if you are not successful the first time you try to achieve your goals, have patience, faith, and the determination to continue to make your life all that you want and dream it to be.
Never stop having determination, because when you do, it can lead you to a state of depression, hopelessness, and insecurity. However, you are worth the fight, so be determined to be all that you want to be. Be determined to do everything that makes you happy and fulfilled. You control what you do with Your life. Don’t ever let anyone make you stop being determined. Put your best foot forward to work towards achieving your life goals through determination. Make a firm decision today to be determined. I believe in you, now all you have to do is believe in yourself; that is the first step to having determination. Be determined. Be a Goal Getter! Let’s Go! It’s Go Time!
