BUSINESS ETHICS

In most businesses, leaders know about the importance of business ethics.  One of the important roles of a leader is to possess business ethics.  A part of business ethics is being professional at all times.  Being professional is defined by treating all employees fairly, and communicate with all employees in a professional manner, as well as how you conduct yourself on the job.  A good leader does not engage in favoritism, gossip, blaming, name calling, defamation, nor breach professional code of conduct.

Business ethics also involves integrity, which involves being honest and having good moral principles.  Being open, honest and transparent in your communication with employees is what helps to build trust and build a rapport with employees, as well as a healthy nourishing working environment.  Most of the time employees are only as good as their leaders and the support and resources that they are provided by leadership.  So, if you find yourself, as a leader, complaining about your staff, ask yourself how well do you support their efforts, are they provided with adequate support staffing to achieve organizational goals, and do I provide employees with the adequate resources needed to perform his/her job more efficiently and effectively?  What can you do better as a leader is a great question to ask yourself to align with business ethics.

Business ethics is also about treating all employees fairly, without prejudice or biases.  It takes a mentally mature leader to exemplify the core values of what it means to make ethical business decisions.   The ability to support your employees, motivate and reward your employees, keep confidential information confidential, rely only on facts to make data driven decisions, not engage in hearsay, and practice and examine how leaders exemplify ethical principles are important to business success and retaining quality employees.  The purpose of business ethics is to ensure that the culture of the organization is aligned to the mission and all employees are treated with respect, integrity, fairness and honesty.
