Brain Sketch

Your brain is your most powerful organ.  It weighs about three pounds.   The brain is made up of three main parts: the cerebrum fills up most of your skull. It is involved in remembering, problem solving, thinking, and feeling. It also controls movement.

The cerebellum is in the back of your head, under the cerebrum. It controls coordination and balance.

The brain stem is beneath your cerebrum in front of your cerebellum. It connects the brain to the spinal cord and controls automatic functions such as breathing, digestion, heart rate and blood pressure.

“Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month" offers the  opportunity for people to be more cognizant of their brain health.  If you experience memory loss or problems thinking rationally to talk with your doctor to detect Alzheimer's. There are many possible causes and if it is Alzheimer’s disease, there are numerous benefits to getting a timely diagnosis early.  To keep your brain health functioning properly, make sure you incorporate healthy habits that can help to reduce cognitive decline.    Keep your brain active, by staying actively engaged in reading, exercise, and activities.

Learn the early warning signs for Alzheimer's, but know that not everyone who experiences memory loss is the result from Alzheimer's.  Most of us live pretty productive lives, and the more we have to do, the more we are required to remember.    Signs of cognitive decline is impaired judgment, mood changes, challenges with decision making and carry out normal daily activities.  Early detection is key.
