This has been a rough year, attempting to return to normal from Covid-19. Covid-19 is the new normal. Another variation called Omicron has the world of sports in an uproar, again. Please continue to follow all health and safety protocols and please wear a mask, so you can protect me and I can protect you!!! We will get through this together. PHILLY STRONG!!!!!
COLLEGE FOOTBALL
There are four teams remaining in the 2021-2022 College Football Playoffs. The games will take place on January 1, 2022.
#1 Alabama (vs) #4 Cincinnati @ 3:30pm The Cotton Bowl
#2 Michigan (vs) #3 Georgia @ 7:30pm The Orange Bowl
** The winners will play in the National Championship Game on January, 10, 2022 in Indianapolis, Indiana at 8:00pm at The Lucas Oil Stadium.
NFL
The NFL is in week 17. With 2 weeks remaining in the regular season, only five teams have clinched a playoff spot and three teams have already been eliminated. The Seahawks, Giants and Panthers have been eliminated and making preparations for next season. The Chiefs, Cowboys, Rams, Buccaneers, and Packers have all punched their tickets to the playoffs. There are 24 more teams competing for the chance to make it into post season.
The Eagles have a chance to move on, only if they compete at the highest level and refrain from injuries and unhealthy safety protocols. The Eagles have two games remaining in regular season. The team must defeat Washington on January 1, 2022 and Dallas on January 9, 2022 to move into post season.

NBA
Coaches and players around the league continue to struggle with variants of Covid-19. On December 30, Doc Rivers, the coach of the Philadelphia 76’ers has entered Covid-19 protocol by testing positive. Currently, there are six coaches in Covid-19 protocol and are required to self quarantine:

*Monty Williams – Phoenix Suns
*Billy Donovan – Chicago Bulls
*Chauncey Billups – Portland Trailblazers

The 76’ers are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with a record of 18 wins and 6 losses, still without Ben Simmons. There have been many trade rumors for Ben, yet none have come to fruition. Ben has not showed up for practice games or scheduled meetings claiming he is not mentally ready. The team’s administration has fined Ben almost $2 million dollars, thus far. The team has offered other resources to help Ben get his mind right so he can return to the team and earn his keep. STILL, NO SHOW BEN!!!!!
The 76’ers have had players in and out of Covid-19 protocol throughout the season. There are five players currently in protocol:

Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid were just released from protocol. All teams must follow and adhere to all safety and health protocols if teams don’t want a repeat of season 2020’s shut down!!

WNBA
The 2022 WNBA Draft Lottery was held on Sunday, December 19, 2021. There were four teams who participated in the lottery. The teams were:
*The Indiana Fever
*The Washington Mystics
*The Atlanta Dream
*The Dallas Wings
The Washington Mystics have the #1 pick, The Indiana Fever have the 2nd pick, The Atlanta Dream have the 3rd pick, and The Dallas wings have the 4th pick in the draft lottery. The WNBA Draft will take place April 11, 2022. Training camp will begin April 17, 2022. The 2022 season will run May 6 through August 14, 2022. Playoffs are set to begin August 17, 2022. The finals will begin September 21, 2022. The FIBA World Cup is scheduled to begin September 22, 2022 in Sydney, Australia.
For the first time in the leagues 25 year history, teams will play a 36 game regular season schedule. The All Star weekend will run from July, 9-10 and the WNBA All Star Game will be on Sunday, July 10, 2022.
OLYMPICS 2022
*The 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing are underway. The Biden Administration is imposing a diplomatic boycott of the 2022 Olympics over the Chinese government’s rights abuses.
NHL
The NHL and NHLPA has agreed not to participate in the Beijing Olympics due to a change in the NHL regular season schedule due to Covid. In early December, Omicron, a Covid-19 variant, halted the league and forced the league to postpone many games. The league resumed play on December 28, 2021 but promises to keep an eye on this new Omicron variant and has committed to follow the leagues health and safety protocol.
The NHL Winter Classic will take place on January 1, 2022 at The Target Field in Minneapolis at 7pm. The St. Louis Blues will play The Minnesota Wild.
