February is Black History Month, which is an annual celebration of the achievements of African Americans and our central role in United States History.  Black History Month was first known as “Negro History Week, “coined by the Harvard trained historian, Carter G. Woodson and Minister Jesse E. Moorland, who founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, an organization dedicated to researching the achievements of Black Americans and those of African descent.  Since 1976, Black History month is officially designated in the month of February.  Black history month began in 1915, after the thirteenth amendment abolished slavery in the United States.

The Civil Rights Movement in the 1960’s led Negro History Week to evolve into Black History Month and in 1976, former President Gerald Ford officially signed documents to observe February as Black History Month.  We thank and honor those who suffered and fought for our civil rights, freedom and liberties for these human rights.  Thank you for paving the way for African Americans to live better lives, have a seat at the table, and create their own tables.  From Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, W.E.B. On January 26, 2020, the world was saddened and shocked by the unfortunate and untimely death of an NBA Superstar athlete, Kobe Bryant who was killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas while traveling to a basketball practice at Mamba Sports Academy, which is a sports training center for youth and adults in California.  It has not been reported the cause of the helicopter crash, but speculations are circulating that the pilot could not see clearly through fog and possibly hit a mountaintop, which brought down the craft, which upon impact on landing blew up into flames.  Unfortunately, there were also others reported to be on the helicopter and none of them survived.  Those individuals were, Kobe Bryant's 13 y.o. daughter Gianna Bryant, Alyssa Altobelli, John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Payton Chester, Sarah Chester, Christina Mauser, and Ara Zobayan as reported by Fox News.  Our hearts and prayers are with the families at this difficult time.  Kobe truly will be missed.  He was definitely one of the greatest basketball players of all time.  He was 41 years old and spent 20 years in the NBA as a shooting guard playing for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he and his teammates won five NBA  championships.  Married to his wife and mother of his children, Vanessa, who we are praying for her strength, as well as for the strength of all of the families.  May they all rest in peace and rise in glory. #mamba #kobe

NBA Commissioner, David Stern died on January 1st at the age of 77.  His cause of death was reported as a brain hemorrhage.  Stern was a lawyer, who spend 30 years as an NBA commissioner.  He is known to have what some would call a playful love/hate relationship with one of NBA greats Allen Iverson, formerly of the Philadelphia, 76ers, who never compromised himself to "fit" and as a result players of today have to freedom to dress the way they want to dress.  Stern will be missed.

One of the films that comes out next month, March 6th to be on the lookout for is the film, The Way Back, which is about a basketball coach, a team, believing in yourself and the battle to overcome drug addiction.  Ben Afleck does an awesome job with this one and hopefully it is a ministry for him to help with his own sobriety.  Watch the movie trailer here:  https://youtu.be/VzNJVSsjE-I

Last month, Tyler Perry did it again with “A Fall from Grace” on Netflix, which is about a middle-aged woman who falls in love quickly with a younger man, who is an attractive, preying charmer that reminds us to never judge a book by its cover.  The plot thickens as the story goes on and it ends with a twist that you would not have imagined.  Although, most of Perry’s movies all have the same premise, each approach he takes leads to a good suspense thriller that is a must see and is available now on NetFlix.  Check out the trailer here: https://youtu.be/KxLb3aLb5j4

TIPS

Attractive Girl with Loose Curls

This month we focus on skin care.  It is important to know that make-up should not be used for covering up acne and blemishes.  There is a cause associated with acne and blemishes.  Therefore, we should treat the acne and blemishes first and avoid putting make-up on until after we have treated the problem.  To treat acne and blemishes, it is good to start with a good facial cleanser.  You can try a skin toner with witch hazel extract, which is a deep cleanser available at LoveExquisite.com.  Consult with your physician or dermatologist before applying any product to sensitive skin.

Apply the skin toner, with a facial wipe to cleanse the face.  Often times, soaps and body wash can dry out the skin, so it is also important to apply a facial moisturizer as well, Love Exquisite has a soothing moisturizer with hyaluronic acid, which helps prevent wrinkles and fine lines. A facial cleanser is important, especially if you wear make-up, because soap and body wash does not remove the make-up deep in the skin.  A good make-up remover is important as well, which you can also find on LoveExquisite.com

When you properly cleanse the skin, you unclog your pores of dirt and make-up that can cause acne and blemishes.  You will also have a natural glow to your face, when your skin is cleansed and healthy.
