GOOD HEALTH & WELLNESS

Stress Awareness Month
and Minority Health
Awareness Month

April is Stress Awareness Month! Stress is a response to an external cause, such as taking a big test or arguing with someone. It usually goes away once the situation is resolved. However, it usually impacts your health, mentally, physically, and emotionally. Stress can be both positive and negative. For example, stress can inspire you to meet a deadline (positive), or it can cause you to lose sleep (negative). It is important to be able to control your stress level to avoid health problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, heart attack, or stroke.
Some of the ways that you can reduce stress is to practice meditation, deep breathing, maintain a healthy diet, get adequate rest, avoid excessive caffeine and alcohol, stay away from your stressful triggers, engage in hobbies and physical activity, stay hydrated, stop worrying about things you cannot control, as well as talk to a professional counselor, when needed. Nothing and no one is worth your mental sanity.
April is also National Minority Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about the importance of improving the health of racial and ethnic minority communities and reducing health disparities.
National Minority Health Month helps to:
Build awareness about the disproportionate burden of premature death and illness in people from racial and ethnic minority groups.
Encourage action through health education, early detection, and control of disease complications.
Make sure you focus on your health this month and always. Take good care of yourself. You only get one body and one life to live. Schedule an appointment today to see your primary doctor. Good health is wealth!
