NBA 

 

The Philadelphia 76’ers are in sixth place in the eastern Conference with a record of 33 wins, and 25 losses.  It has been a constant struggle to keep Joel Embiid healthy.  Almost a month ago, he went out again with an injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee after Golden State Warrior player, Jonathan Kuminga fell on his knee while going after a loose ball.  Joel underwent corrective surgery and would be evaluated within the next four weeks.  The team has yet to release an update regarding the progress of his recovery.

TBT- THE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT 

 

The Basketball Tournament returns in July, 2024 with four new teams. 

Wichita – The Aftershocks (Wichita State Alumni) 

Butler – All Good Dawgs (Butler Alumni) 

Lexington – La Familia (Kentucky Alumni) 

Cincinnati – Nasty Nati (Cincinnati Alumni) 

 

The 2024 USA Men’s National Basketball Olympic Team was selected by USA Men’s Basketball National Team Managing Director, Grant Hill.  Out of a forty one athlete player pool, only twelve players will be selected.  The team will host Canada at Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena in a showcase exhibition game on July 10 @ 7:30. The team will also play South Sudan on July 20, and Germany on July 22nd.  The 2024 USA Men’s Team will be led by Head Coach, Steve Kerr and assisted by Tyronn Lue, Mark Few and Erik Spoelstra. 

 

Out of the forty one athlete player pool there will be a 12 member 2024 USA Men’s National Team, which will represent the United States at the 2024 Olympic Summer Game in Paris.  The twelve member team will be announced at a later date.  Here is a list of the 41 Athlete Player Pool.

The 2024 USA Basketball Women’s National Team will be coached by Cheryl Reeve and assisted by Mike Thibault and Curt Miller.  The Team announced the players, Ariel Atkins, Aliyah Boston, Napheesa Collier, Kahleah Copper, Rhyne Howard, Sabrina Ionescu, Jewell Lloyd, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, Diana Taurasi, Alyssa Thomas, and Jackie Young.

NBA

NBA All Star Weekend was last month.  The Eastern Conference led the Western Conference 211-186, the most points scored in an All Star game. 

 

The Sixers welcomed, Kyle Lowry, to the team last month.  Kyle is a 6-time All Star, and former Toronto Raptors retiree, who also played with the Miami Heat.  Although, he is only 37, he spent 18 years of his basketball career playing in the NBA and was brought to Philadelphia to help the Sixers in the absence of Joel Embiid, who is still out on injury.  Kyle Lowry is a native from Philadelphia, PA, so what better way to give back to the City.  Welcome home, Kyle!  Let's Go Sixers!
