SPORTS TALK WITH COACH D

NBA

The NBA is in full swing, minus the bubble.  We are in the playoffs and it looks a little different.  FANS ARE BACK!!!!!!  Below are the 16 teams that made it into the playoffs:

EAST
Philadelphia (vs) Washington

Brooklyn (vs) Boston

N.Y. Knicks (vs) Atlanta

Miami (vs) Milwaukee

WEST
L.A. Lakers (vs) Phoenix

Dallas (vs) L.A. Clippers

Utah (vs) Memphis

Denver (vs) Portland

The Philadelphia 76’ers are in a seven game series versus The Washington Wizards, on the Sixers home court, in round 1 of the playoffs.  The 76’ers are up 2-0 in the series.  The Sixers are playing their best basketball since the outbreak of COVID-19.  Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid and Tobias Harris are putting in the work.  The bench players are also playing a big part in the Sixers wins.  The team must remain consistent and continue to play together to advance to the second round.

The NBA Championship 2021 will take place ithis month.  I am predicting it will look like this, Philadelphia 76’ers (vs)  L.A. Lakers, if the Lakers can defeat Phoenix!

Fans are welcomed back to the Arenas for the first time after the Covid-19 outbreak. We know Philly fans are passionate about their sports, but there is never a reason to be disrespectful to the players.  At a Philadelphia 76'ers home game, a fan disrespected Washington Wizards player Russell Westbrook, by pouring popcorn on him as he was exiting the game due to an injury.  As a result, that fan had his Season Tickets revoked and is banned from entering the Wells Fargo Center indefinitely.  It only takes one bad apple to spoil the bunch!  Come on Philly,  we are better than that!!  Fans should be thankful and grateful for the physical return of any and all sports. LET’S ENCOURAGE ONE ANOTHER TO BE AND DO BETTER!!!!!!!!!!

LET’S GO SIXERS!!!!

WNBA

The WNBA has returned without the WUBBLE!!!!  We welcome the WNBA back.  It has been a long road back since COVID-19 and Social Justice Reform, but the fight continues.  Teams are ready to get back to business.

Shout Out to Betnihjah Laney, daughter of Basketball Standout Yolanda Laney of Cheyney University.  Laney is leading the New York Liberty, who had a tough season last year.  Betnihjah has turned their frown upside down.  She is leading the charge with averaging 22 points per game.  Laney is the first player to score at least 20 points in each of the teams first 6 games and is the reason the New York Liberty is 5-1.

Shout to Kahleah Copper one of my former players who is playing in the WNBA for the Chicago Sky.  I have witnessed Kahleah transform into an incredible player and young lady.  I first coached Kahleah when she was attending Girard College, here in Philadelphia.  After high school she went on to play for Rutgers with an amazing coach, Vivian Stringer.

Kahleah is playing the best ball ever and loving every minute of it.  She is averaging 18 points per game this season.  Kahleah has also taken on the role of player-coach during her off season, becoming an Assistant Coach at Pacific Northwestern University.  This position afforded Kahleah the opportunity to take on the role of player development with the program and also responsible for the opponents scouting report.  Making Philly proud!!!!!

NFL

The Philadelphia Eagles 2021-2022 will look different without QB Carson Wentz, who was traded to The Colts.  QB Jalen Hurts will finally have the opportunity to start and show off what he brings to the table. The Eagles coaching staff appears to be behind Jalen.

The Eagles released some ex-star players such as, Alshon Jeffries, DeSean Jackson, and received new acquisitions such as QB Joe Flacco, and Top Pick WR Devonte Smith.  I would like to say Congratulations to Corey Clement, the New RB for N. Y. Giants and Good luck to the rest of the former Eagles players as well!

Training Camp for the rookies has begun and Eagles are having open practices for the public once again post Covid.

There is a new look for the Eagles, so let’s see what NFL 2021-2022 has in store for the Eagles!

Congratulations to Catherine Raiche who was promoted by the Eagles to Vice President of Football Operations and to Amena Soliman from player personnel to coordinator to Pro-Scout!
