UNDERSTANDING
There are a lot of things in life that we do not understand.
Some phenomenon, are unexplainable. Nevertheless, there are some things that we might be able to understand, if we try to understand. We don't always understand the behaviors or thought processes of people, before getting to know him/her on a personal level. The more we get to know about someone, the better we will understand the "why" of their behaviors and mental capacity. Sometimes, our differences are what helps to create division and misunderstandings. However, if we learn to accept our differences, we can begin the process of trying to understand one another.
The increase of senseless violence going on in most urban cities, could be a direct result from unresolved misunderstandings. Your perception of someone is not always accurate. The only way you will know if your perception is accurate is by spending time getting to know the person that you are trying to understand. Having background knowledge about a person can help to create a sympathetic and empathetic awareness that could make you treat the person more respectfully.
Gaining insight and understanding someone takes patience and time to get to know one another. Asking questions is a great way to get to know someone. Never assume what someone's character is, especially if you did not spend time getting to know them. When you encounter someone who displays negative characteristics, instead of asking him/her what is wrong with you? Ask him/her what happened in your life that makes you who you are today? Doing so, will give you a mental grasp and understanding (comprehension) of the person.
Understanding is a way to show someone that you care enough about them to try to understand their communication style, reasoning, and logic. If there is someone in your life that you don't understand and you want to understand them, take the steps necessary to try to get to know him/her and allow him/her the opportunity to get to know you. Doing so, will allow the both of you time to get to know and understand one another to determine how best to communicate with each other in a harmonious way. The best way to resolve conflict situations is to get an understanding of the root cause for the conflict and remain solution-focused about how to use that gained knowledge to resolve the conflict. Having an understanding is critical to problem solving, so make sure that you at least try to understand someone other than yourself. Let's create a peaceful world by first trying to understand each other.
