Choosing the Right Foundation for Darker Skin Tones

Choosing the right foundation is not always easy. For women with darker skin, it is best to be able to distinguish between your skin’s undertone and overtone. Undertone is the natural color of your skin right beneath the skin surface layer, which never changes. However, your skin’s overtone can change based upon the weather (time of year), acne, blemishes, or scarring. When you figure out your skin’s undertone, it will be easier to find your perfect shade of foundation.

There are three major undertones to consider, warm, cool, and neutral. If your skin tone is between tan and light brown, you have a warm undertone. Darker tone skin color usually has cool undertones. The color of the veins that appear on the inner part of your wrist can help you determine your skin’s undertone, when you look at your veins in natural lighting. If your veins appear blue-green, you have a warm undertone. If your veins appear blue-purple, you have a cool undertone. If you cannot see your veins clearly, you have a neutral undertone. If you are still not sure, select all three different types of foundation; one that has cool undertones, one that has warm undertones and one that is neutral, then using your fingertip, apply each foundation by creating a small line from your lower jaw bone to the middle of your neck. Look in the mirror to see which one is closest to your natural skin tone.

The goal of choosing the right foundation is to align the color of your face with the rest of your body. If you have a difficult time selecting the right foundation, you can also blend two shades together to create a customized tone that best matches your skin tone. If you have oily skin, try a foundation that is one shade lighter, because oily skin creates an illusion of a darker skin tone. If you have dry skin, try a foundation that is water-based, includes moisturizer, or a liquid or cream-based foundation. Earl "Dark Man X aka DMX" Simmons, hip-hop artist died from what is reported as a drug overdose last month. DMX's musical legacy will live on forever. DMX was 50.

Robert "Black Rob" Ross, hip-hop artist died from what is reported as a cardiac arrest last month as well. The rapper is best known for his hit song, "Whoa." He was 52.

Geno Hayes, NFL player who played for the Buccaneers, Bears and the Jaguars, died at the age of 33 from what is reported as liver disease.

Mike Davis, retired NFL player from the Raiders passed away at the age of 65 from causes not reported.

Gregory "Shock G" Jacobs, music artist from the group Digital Underground, was found dead in a hotel. The cause of death is not reported. He is best known for his hit song, 'The Humpty Dance." He was 57.

Morris "B.B." Dickerson, bassist and founding member of the funk band, War, died at the age of 71 from causes not reported. Reports only state that he battled with a long time illness.

Quindon Tarver, R&B Singer, passed away at the age of 38 from what is reported as a traffic collision.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, passed away at the age of 99. Prior to his death, it is reported that he was recently hospitalized while undergoing treatment for an infection and recovering from heart surgery.

Gerren Taylor, actress on Baldwin Hills, died at the age of 30 from was is reported as complications from Lupus

The Washington Post reports,

"985 people have been shot and killed by police in the past year. Black Americans are killed at a much higher rate." Rest in peace to Ma'Khia Bryant (16), Andrew Brown Jr. (42), Daunte Wright (20), Adam Toledo (13), and Mario Gonzalez (26).
